Cyclists on sidewalk, wrong bikelane
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:17:53 PM »
What are people's opinions on what to say to people who ride on the sidewalk on campus or ride in the bikelane on the wrong side of the road?  Nicely tell them where they should be, with a pretty please?  ;D  Tell them sternly where they should be?  :angry2:  Call 'em out and get the posse? :mario: :mob:   ;)

Well, supposedly I yelled at doublefist before I knew who he was about riding on the wrong side of the street.  I don't know if it was effective.

It's a tough call, but I'm trying to be nicer and strike up conversations with people who do things that are bad for cyclists (before I suggest they change).  Salmoning is a problem just because you don't get much opportunity unless you want to turn around and set a bad example yourself.

Riding on sidewalks and paths on campus is legal.  I won't ride on sidewalks (next to streets) but I will ride on paths (that cross campus between streets), nor will I ride the wrong way down streets on campus (or anywhere, but some people do).  I suggest that anyone who rides on campus become comfortable saying "on your left" or getting a bell, but as far as convincing some people that they are scaring the crap out of people, I don't know what to do.

I didn't mean to quell any further discussion.

If you want to talk about oblivious to the world around you, check out this post from Copenhagen Cycle Chic, where it doesn't matter if you can see the traffic as long as you look good: http://www.copenhagencyclechic.com/2009/08/niceness.html

AAAAHHHHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Did you guys see the signs that UND put on the grass next to the bike lanes, they are facing the wrong direction so the cyclists going the WRONG WAY can read them and they basically say "Ah, you F*&$@#% are breaking the law, ride with traffic" in paraphrase of coarse...... that's the UND I want to go to school in!!!

FINALLY!!                                    :violent1:

You guys are chatting!
The minimum number of bikes one should own is three.  The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned.  This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

I saw a kid riding this morning, no handle bars in the wrong bike lane, talking on his cell phone and passing about 3 or 4 bikers!! :violent1:

Just a heads up, if you happen to see a guy on the sidewalk on one of those tricycle recumbent things, you might give him a pass because he's blind (and a professor, actually).
