Adelphi Literary Society
« on: November 06, 2006, 03:29:21 PM »
Adelphi Literary Society needs new blood.

We meet at 5 p.m. each Monday in Merrifield 116.

There is often free food, quite usually pizza.

We are open to everyone and everything (currently, we have art and atmospheric science majors in the club).

There are also officer spots open if anyone needs to pad a grad school application or job application/resume.  :D

Message me for more info!

Actually, since the society's revival is only two years old, we're still trying to figure things out. Last year, we celebrated Shakespeare's birthday by going to see Hamlet in Minneapolis. It's really been trial and error -- we had a wildly successful grammar debate, but no one signed up for our winter olympics.

Something I always liked to do was get a group of people together to read plays--Shakespeare especially, since you don't have to pay much attention to staging.  I like it because I understand things better when I hear them, and it's always fun to see how other people read the lines in new ways.  Then you can switch up the parts for the next act, and see how it comes out.

If you had a series of stuff like that, I would definitely show up.

That is a really cool idea. We've tried to do the traditional book club approach, but that's never worked because either no one reads the work or no one can get their hands on it. If we were to do the readings as a group, we might have more success. Even Shakespeare probably wouldn't take more than two or three hours, tops, to read outloud as a group.
