Night and lights
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:08:39 AM »
I'm looking into getting a better rear flasher so cars can see me at night.  I know the superflash is pretty good, but the reviews I've been reading say the clip sucks (and I would like to clip to my bag rather than have to move a mount from bicycle to bicycle).

Has anyone seen/used one of these: http://www.rei.com/product/776521 ?

The battery life is lower, but I could pick up some rechargeable AAAs, plus it has a reflector so it works to some degree even when not on.

Dude... they're crazy that the clip sucks Its also replaceable. I've PERSONALLY used 2 generations of these lights. I had 5 of them for my team to use during the 24hrs of adrenalin MTB race. One fell off and was smashed apart by following riders. I picked it up on my next lap and put it back together in the pits. Its on Emily's bike now. Working flawlessly. I'm now on my 7th one (primarily because 4 of the 7 I "gave" to my teammates) and I keep moving and they end up in the wrong part of the country when I need them, oh and I have a girlfriend that may or may not consider that cars can't see her. I also just bought their newest (and better) version as you know if you've ridden behind me.

In short, the clip works great unless you're a moron or want to clip it to like a book cover or something thicker than a strap or it's mount. I have a mount on 3 of my bikes and I just switch it between all 3 as well as wearing it on my saddle bag on my roadie or my jersey pocket.

I do have one with a "broken" clip, but it's actually the way that the light holds onto the clip. It could probably be fixed.

I've also heard decent things about the cherry bombs. But superflash owns the market. No two ways about it.

This just in from the Grand Forks Police Department:

9. Although it is not encouraged, when riding after dark you must have a headlamp that is visible from at least 500 feet away.

Think about that.
